The other day Marc had a great meeting with Jim Wynne. Jim is a high quality guy and probably the most knowledgeable and committed Boston area orthotist when it comes to scoliosis bracing. Marc and I first met Jim in 2001 when our daughter was braced for a short time and our family was sent to him for follow-up fittings.
At their meeting Marc and Jim exchanged experiences from the scoliosis world and shared news about upcoming events and products pertaining to scoliosis. Marc came home very excited after hearing about some of the new developments in bracing, as well as other products for scoliosis being investigated in Europe and Boston. I think Jim was impressed with some of the results Marc is working so hard to achieve with Schroth patients.
As Marc filled me in on their meeting, I began thinking that this is the way things in the scoliosis community should be: open communications between conservative care practitioners focusing on alternative treatments like Schroth, orthotists, and orthopedic Drs. collaborating for the sake of the patient. Perhaps then, the process of finding meaningful and more user friendly solutions for scoliosis patients will advance more rapidly. Of course, this is a primary goal of SOSORT, of which Jim and Marc are both members. As the wheels in my head were turning, the thought occurred to me that Boston is the perfect US locale for this type of collaboration to evolve since we are home to esteemed Drs., orthotists, PT’s, the NSF, and also where we do our work as one of the few US clinics teaching Schroth and Best Practice of Germany. Hopefully, their meeting will be the beginning of something productive and new. We will be sure to continue the conversation.
