• 14.75 year-old female
  • Initial Cobb angle(s) 17º/34º
  • Risser 3
Before becoming our patient, this female adolescent wore a Boston brace prescribed by an orthopedic surgeon. Records sent to our office included a note from her surgeon to the referring pediatrician stating that despite bracing, progression was “guaranteed” and this patient would probably require surgery. When the girl’s mother asked that same surgeon about Schroth Method exercises, he told her, it’s a waste of money.”
Eventually, her parents decided to ‘waste their money’ and brought their daughter to Scoliosis 3DC® since they wanted their daughter to have every opportunity for improvement before reaching skeletal maturity. Because she was a Boston area patient, EB completed Schroth method training with us over 4 weeks. She practiced her Schroth exercises at home and reported wearing her Boston Brace about 18 hours per day.

Once this patient learned our scoliosis program, she improved dramatically. When the surgeon saw the x-ray a few months later showing such a substantial reduction in scoliosis he told her mother that results like these were “unheard of” and he’d never seen anything like it in all his years of treating! He then proceeded to deny that the Schroth method may have contributed to her incredible improvement although her Cobb angles reduced to 19° thoracic and 21° lumbar after 8 months of Schroth method exercises creating a much more balanced spinal alignment.
