• 12-year-old female
  • Initial Cobb angles 45º/26º
  • Risser 1

This patient, an avid dancer, was initially diagnosed with scoliosis at 8 years old. When she first came to see us, she was twelve years-old with a 45 degree scoliosis in the thoracic spine (primary curve) and 36 degree scoliosis in the lumbar spine. Interestingly, she had a Scoliscore genetic test which claimed she was at intermediate risk of progression. Hailing from Texas, the patient’s parents brought her for a Chêneau brace and Schroth exercise instruction.

Exercise program compliance eventually proved to be a challenge for this active girl. An interim x-ray (not shown) demonstrated more substantial improvement than her last x-ray posted here. Unfortunately, she lost a bit of her improvement along the way but considering her somewhat late start (more than 6 months after menarche occurred), she did very well with treatment. The x-ray on right shows thoracic Cobb angles reduced by 7º overall at skeletal maturity (according to a bone age x-ray taken on the same day).
