• 10.75-year-old female
  • Initial Cobb angle 27°
  • Risser 0

This patient came from Bermuda to visit Boston Children’s Hospital. The doctor she saw there recommended bracing. Since she was coming to Boston, her mom also booked an appointment with us. Due to our ability to turn braces around very quickly, we were able to scan and fit her with a Chêneau brace within 24 hours, so mom decided to go that route rather than make another trip to Children’s Hospital to receive a brace at a future date. This patient’s Cobb angle reduction is technically not considered a reduction, as it’s right at 5° (the margin of error of measurement). Nonetheless, we wanted to share her result as scoliosis can worsen during periods of growth and this patient has been able to remain stable over the last 2+ years. No progression is still considered a successful result by the traditional medical community. Moreover, it is clear to see that her spine is now closer to the midline, and much better balanced, as shown by the red plumb lines. Scoliosis improvement is not just about the Cobb angle measurement.

The orthopedist told us that if he… Read More
