• 9-year-old female
  • Initial Cobb angles 14º/25º/17º
  • Risser 0

This juvenile scoliosis has been under our care for nearly 8 years. She is from Houston, Texas and she came to see us for a Chêneau brace and Schroth method instruction in the summer of 2017. At the start of treatment, her Cobb angles measured 14º, 25º and 17°. Juvenile scoliosis cases with a Cobb angle of 25º are considered to be at high risk for progression. She had an excellent in-brace correction with her first scoliosis brace and was off to a great start.

We have managed M’s scoliosis throughout her adolescence and she has been in and out of braces during this time. We keep a close eye on her, as we do all of our patients with mom sending updates and photos periodically. She is just about to be 17 years old (early 2025) and is now a Risser 4. She’s been back to see us a few times over the years because we don’t wait to react if an x-ray shows her spine beginning to become unstable again.

M’s most recent out-of-brace x-rays showed curves that measure 12º, 7º, and 3º–barely considered to be scoliosis. In the past eight years, she’s  grown nearly 13″ and managed to reduce her curves and keep them there. Considering that she is nearly at skeletal maturity, we’d say she is almost home-free after quite a long journey with scoliosis.
