• 15-year-old female
  • Initial Cobb angles 28º/43º/20º
  • Risser 4

This adolescent patient presented to our office after being diagnosed with a 43º thoracic scoliosis and a 20º lumbar scoliosis. At that time she was a Risser 4, nearly fully grown and three years post-menses. Prior to coming to our office, the surgeon who evaluated her told her that surgery was her only option.

Not liking that option, this teen’s mom brought her to learn more about our Schroth program (she did not wear a brace). She completed treatment and did her daily Schroth exercises regularly for four months. After that, she decided to reduce her exercise frequency to four days per week. One year after initially coming to our office, this girl had a follow-up x-ray that showed curve reduction of 13º and 6º.

For more detailed information on this patient’s case, see our case study entitled, Cobb Angle Reduction in a Nearly Skeletally Mature Adolescent (Risser 4) After Pattern-Specific Scoliosis Rehabilitation (PSSR).
